On Friday, I pointed to a post at TechCrunch relaying a rumor that last.fm had handed over data to RIAA in an effort to track down a leak of U2’s as-of-yet unreleased new album. Update: last.fm disputes the allegation. I think we’ll find out soon, if this blurb at TechCrunch is to be believed: That leaked U2 album is causing all sorts of trouble. The unreleased album, which is due out on March 3, found its way onto BitTorrent and was downloaded hundreds of thousands of times. That, apparently, sent music [...] 
I’m no fan of music or video piracy. I’m even less of a fan of the overly-heavy-handed tactics taken by the recording and movie industries to protect their intellectual property. So, I was very amused to read that the over-breadth and sloppiness of RIAA/MPAA takedown practices was confirmed by accusations laid against HP Laserjet printers for [...] |
