On the campaign trail this week, Hillary was heard encouraging supporters to bet on Eight Belles in this weekend’s Kentucky Derby, seeing as how she was to be the sole filly among the 20-horse field.
I just happened to notice this tragic news cross the AP wire:
Filly Eight Belles was second, but she broke down as the 20-horse field galloped out past the finish line.
She was later euthanized on the track.
My condolences go to those who knew and loved Eight Belles, and I’ll avoid aggravating their loss and leave the tragic irony of the situation as an exercise for the reader.
Update: Egad….I just noticed — Eight Belles, the lone filly in the field, endorsed by Hillary, came in second behind….Big Brown. Again, tragic irony, exercise for the reader….
