Memphis: 1978

Memphis, as it was when I moved there in 1978. The pale blue lines represent the portions of I-40 and I-240 unbuilt at the time. US78 hadn’t yet been upgraded to a full freeway, and the I-55/US61-64-70-79 crossing of the Mississippi River wasn’t at full freeway standards. Also on the plans was for an expressway to run down Mud Island and connect to I-40 just east of the bridge.
