Rain falls through the cool air, splashing on the pavement. Droplets fall from the newly-grown grass. Violet and yellow blossoms fade into the greenery on bushes recently awakened. Small green dots appear on bare earth, promising wildflowers to come.

Middle of a cold December’s night. Wind crackles through the ice-covered trees. Skin burns from the chill. Orion overhead, Saturn a bit to the left, the Pleiades a bit to the right, and the quarter-moon rising behind the trees to the east. An owl hoots in the woods.

Lawnmowers buzzing throughout the neighborhood. Bees swarming over fallen, overripe apples. A breeze blows, with a hint of crispness rather than the oppressiveness of weeks before. A 747 glides overhead, moments from touchdown.

A cool noontime, the mornings showers having passed but clouds still covering the sky…. Puffs of grey and white drift up among trees near the top of the ridge, like steam rising from the great dark green wall. Green trees abound by the fields and the brook, with a few branches showing hints of the color yet to come.
