Where am I?

DirecTV Changing Music Channels Again

Via Orbitcast, I’ve been introduced to this announcement from DirecTV:

On February 9, 2010, DIRECTV customers will have a new source for their favorite music channels. SonicTap will continue to deliver the same crystal-clear sound and programming variety that DIRECTV viewers have always enjoyed. And SonicTap features even more music channels with no interruptions.

XM has been on DirecTV since November 2005.  I was pleased when they replaced the prior service, as I was a rather pro-XM person at the time.  However, since the Sirius-XM merger (and resultant dilution of XM play lists), and my having fallen victim to the iPhone horde… meh.

SonicTap is an iteration of the DMX music service I was acquainted with back before Comcast wanted to charge me a few thousand dollars to dig up my driveway over a signal quality issue, sending me to join the DBS crowd.  It was OK, I guess; kind of like XM is now, post-Sirius.

The DirecTV announcement includes the new channel mappings, for those who might be curious.

Well, at least they are keeping the Showtune channel, although I have no idea whether the quality will go down as it did when XM went to Sirius. What may be more telling is the impact of this on XM/Sirius — this means they are losing an income stream, and are already marginal. Could it be putting them over the edge?

I do not like Directv music now. Bring back XM Radio music. I always listened to Escape channel 819, but now it is gone, and nothing now on Sonic like Escape, or easy listening. Not happy.
