CareerCast Declares Actuaries Have Second-Best Jobs in the Country

The Wall Street Journal mentioned (subscriber link) that CareerCast (from the author of the Jobs Rated Almanac) has prepared an updated list of best/worst jobs.

The top 10:

1.  Mathematician
2.  Actuary
3.  Statistician
4.  Biologist
5.  Software Engineer
6.  Computer Systems Analyst
7.  Historian
8. Sociologist
9. Industrial Designer
10. Accountant

And, for whatever it’s worth, the bottom 11:

200.  Lumberjack
199.  Dairy Farmer
198.  Taxi Driver
197.  Seaman
196.  EMT
195.  Garbage collector
194.  Welder
193.  Roustabout
192.  Ironworker
191.  Construction Worker
190.  Mail Carrier

It looks like actuaries lose out to mathematicians on a slight average pay difference.

We may have slipped from our number one position back in the day, but number two still ain’t bad.  (However, whoever determined that low stress rating never had to experience an actuarial exam!)
