If you’d like a taste of what ballot examiners are going through as the Franken/Coleman recount progresses in Minnesota, Minnesota Public Radio has some samples of challenged ballots.
A couple of my favorites:
You know, perhaps the scantron voting table privacy screens need instructions, in 144-point type, reading:
- Completely fill in the oval next to the name of the candidate you wish to vote for.
- If you make a mistake or wish to change your vote, it is OK to ask for a fresh ballot.
- If it is not clear who you wish to vote for, your vote might not be counted.
Sometimes it is very tempting to wish that we tested for ability to comprehend instructions, and a minimal awareness of current events, as a prerequisite for voting in an election.
