A thread at the Actuarial Outpost brought this ad to my attention:

Contingencies, of course, is the bimonthly magazine published by the American Academy of Actuaries.  The current issue features articles from both the McCain and Obama campaigns on their health care proposals, along with a general overview/opinion from Cori Uccello, the AAA’s  senior health fellow, who makes two points that bear repeating:

Unless health care costs are controlled, any attempts to reduce the number of uninsured may be in vain.[…]

[I]t is imperative that the next president develop comprehensive solutions to Medicare to ensure the program’s solvency and sustainability.

(Cori does mention that both McCain’s and Obama’s plans do have potential to address the cost inflation issue over the long term.)
