Sam Friedman Calls for an Insurance Party

Sam Friedman Calls for an Insurance Party

26 August 2008 · No Comments

It’s easy for those of us in the insurance industry to be loved…especially this week, and probably next week, insurers are the easy targets on the issue of health care.

So, Sam Friedman at National Underwriter offers an idea (albeit tongue-in-cheek):

Given the fact that neither Democrats nor Republicans can be trusted to resist the temptation to exploit the public’s misunderstanding and ignorance about insurance, isn’t it about time the industry formed its own party and fielded its own candidates for elective office–starting with this year’s presidential race?

Can we get basic math, economics, and actuarial science added to high school curricula, in an effort to educate future consumers into the fiscal realities of risk-sharing, as one of our platform planks, pretty please?

Given the current political climate, I can see one quick effect of an insurance party: it would achieve national unity…against us.
