Seen in the Courant:
Five lawmakers, most of whom represent towns which have had recent accidents involving teen drivers, announced the proposed legislation Thursday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
The legislation would require police to seize a 16- or 17-year-old driver’s license for a first offense of reckless or drunken driving, refusal to take a breathalyzer test, drag racing or violating passenger restriction laws. To get the license back, the teenager would have to complete a retraining course.
The legislators also want to change the reckless driving statute to include traveling 25 mph or more over the posted speed limit.
What I’d like to know is—why limit such restrictions to teenagers?
