I’m prone to having odd thoughts from time to time. This is my odd thought of the day.
It’s been reasonably well documented that in the Senate, Clinton and McCain have a good relationship. One might even call them buddies.
For example, consider reports that on a 2004 field trip to Estonia, Clinton challenged McCain to a drinking game. (No word on who won; what happens in Estonia stays in Estonia.)
Anyone who’s vaguely aware of the current political climate in the country expects the presidential election campaign to become nasty, once it’s clear who the major party nominees will be, and the partisans are able to turn their guns towards the other party (rather than pointing their artillery into their internal melees as is currently happenning).
Similarly, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that the race is expected, once again, to be very close, with a relatively few votes in a couple of key battleground states being what decides the election.
Given all that, if Clinton and McCain become the nominees, and if it still looks like it’ll be a crap-shoot to decide who will be President…why don’t we just ask them to do a rematch of their drinking contest. Last one not under the table becomes President next January?
It’d save millions of dollars in political spending, and avoid a lot of silly fuss, wouldn’t it? ![]()
