CNN’s Political Ticker is passing along word of another bit of sleaze in late campaigning in early primary states. Apparently this “faux Romney” holiday card is making the rounds in South Carolina:
The scripture quote (Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 11:13), if you can’t make it out in the image, is:
And it came to pass that I looked and beheld the great city of Jerusalem and also other cities. And I beheld the city of Nazareth; and in the city of Nazareth I beheld a virgin, and she was exceedingly fair and white.
[Emphasis is in the original]
So, we not only have a subtle trick to annoy conservative Christians (who presumably would not take well to quotes from the Book of Mormon), as well as to imply racism.
Well, I suppose when you have a large field of candidates who mostly agree with one another on major issues, they’re going to have to find other ways to differentiate themselves. However, shouldn’t some modicum of fairness be deemed desirable in a potential POTUS?
