On the Ron Paul Blogosphere Kerfuffle

As some of you may be aware, RedState has instituted an apparent quasi-ban on Ron Paul supporters participating in discussion at that site. This, naturally, has a few folks (including in particular a very large contingent of Ron Paul supporters) rather upset at the apparent censorship.

A recent post on RedState summarizes their view:

[L]et’s be clear, there are a lot of decent Ron Paul supporters who are welcome here. But we’ve been overrun by the retarded vulture fringe who just drop by to yell about the Zionist Conspiracy to shut Ron Paul out. And I make no exaggeration in saying that. Today, I got my favorite piece of email so far. It said “I smell Hebrews.” That sums up the sentiment of the folks we’ve tossed.

The post includes some lengthier examples of the heat RedState has been taking.

I mention all this mess here because it touches upon one of the problems I have with the Libertarian Party in America. It seems dominated by some rather nutty, or at least unrealistic folks, making it difficult for libertarian-leaning realists like me to stomach the organization.

True, the Donkies and the Elephants have their own share of nutters…but they also (usually) have a decent cushion of more rational folks dampening the effect of the crazy folks. The LP seems to lack sufficient insulation to compete.

So, I think it’s a bit ironic that some folks who would like to see Ron Paul and/or libertarian ideas promoted in mainstream consciousness are doing their goals a disservice with the tactics being pursued.

You’d think that some other big-ell Libertarians would be working feverishly to attempt to dilute the effects of folks like the conspiracy-theorists who have been plaguing sites like RedState.
