So, a little while ago, I got back to my cabin after having taken a few laps around the Promenade Deck. While out, I had an opportunity to contemplate a few storms off to port.
After coming back to the cabin, while waiting for my wife to prepare for breakfast, I cut on CNN and caught a weather report, where a little bit of discussion is spent on a tropical wave in our section of the ocean which could form into a tropical storm.
One thing those storms did provide was a bit of insight as to why the Promenade on Crown Princess is split across two levels. (The bow section of the Promenade is actually on Emerald Deck, rather than Promenade Deck). This morning, there was a very stiff breeze blowing in from ahead of the ship. Very, very windy…and in fact I got quite a workout trying to walk up to the bow, and quite an assist walking away from the bow. Plus, there was an added bonus of the steps being a bit slick from spray and/or an early shower.
It’s all too easy to imagine that the Promenade would be too windy to enjoy property, if a wind-break hadn’t been created by splitting the loop onto two levels.
For those of you who were wondering about other traditional ship-board activities—well, at this point I can’t write too much about that. My wife’s disability means that we lead an “interesting” life sometimes. Yes, we had plans for yesterday, and last night was the ship’s first formal night. However, my wife is finding the ship’s motion very conducive to sleeping. Seeing as how she’s rarely able to sleep for any length of time at home, this is a bit of a treat for us.
So, I’ll bet that many folks would find our first sea day to be very boring. But, you know what? As interesting as our lives can be sometimes, a week and a half of boring is a welcome treat. Sitting on a balcony or in a deck chair, reading, watching the ocean go by is…nice.
