Seen in a Slate.com op-ed about the GOP-sponsored proposed ballot initiative to allocate California’s electoral votes by congressional district:
Save us the sermons about fairness on Fox News by carefully disguised “pro-reform” advocates. If this were truly just a fairer way to divide up electoral votes, why didn’t Karl Rove and the highly placed political operatives behind this initiative choose to begin in the states in which they control the legislatures, like Texas, Alabama, or Utah?
Actually, if folks were really pushing for reform, the initiative would be worded to take effect only after some number of other states followed suit, much in the same way the National Popular Vote compact is written to take effect only after it’s passed in states representing a majority of the Electoral College.
