Back to Michigan for this week’s intersection/interchange:
This is a three-level diamond interchange, also known as a volleyball interchange.
Through traffic on either arterial passes through the interchange on a separated alignment, while traffic wishing to move from one road to the other is left to navigate the intersections of the collector/distributor roadways.
It’s a compact interchange, but presumably the number of overpasses required make it a fairly expensive build.
