Miami Plans a Castro Death Party

30 January 2007 · No Comments

This seems to me to be in horrible taste in oh-so-many-ways. From the AP wire:

The city of Miami is planning an official celebration at the
Orange Bowl whenever Cuban president Fidel Castro dies.

Discussions by a committee appointed earlier this month by the city commission to plan the event have even covered issues such as a theme to be printed on T-shirts, what musicians would perform, the cost and how long the celebration would last.

It’s understandable that Cuban refugees who were/have been oppressed under the Castro regime will not be too disappointed when he leaves power, either by retirement or by death.

However, having an official celebration of a dictator’s death just seems like an incredibly disturbing display of bad taste.
