As part of my recreational online reading, I enjoy following a couple of blogs that (among other things) highlight green construction and building design, something of interest to me as I occasionally play with green-ifying the mansion my wife and I will build if (hypothetically) we were ever to win Powerball.
That’s how I came across this article at Inhabitat:
[T]he folks from Toyota Roof Gardens (a subsidiary of the Prius-creating car company) have solved your green roof installation qualms with a tile-based system that’s as easy as laying down carpet.[...]
In terms of maintenance, the tiles need only be cut once a year, thanks to a special breed of Korean velvet grass.
I’m guessing that such roofs are designed for flat-roofed buildings. However, the idea of mowing a traditional slanted roof is one that I find oddly amusing.
