You probably heard that Senator Dodd, shortly after election day, introduced legislation to defang some of the more disturbing portions of the “torture bill” that passed Congress this year, which included provisions legalizing the use of evidence in trial which was gained under torture, removing the status of “enemy combatants” from judicial and Congressional review, and generally permitting the White House to lock up anybody it wants.
If you’d like to read a pretty good comparison of Dodd’s bill as compared to the current law, check out this post in Bob Geiger’s blog.
