Mehlman on CNN and Vote Shenanigans

7 November 2006 · No Comments

While driving home this evening, I caught an appearance of Mehlman (chairman of the RNCC) on CNN, where he was asked about his thoughts for tonight’s results and allegations of dirty tricks.

He seemed pretty content about the results, citing non-public numbers based on early and absentee voting, and he claimed to be not at all certain that the GOP would lose their majority in either house.

Whether that was just political bluster, good polling data, or expectations of assistance gained from robocallers and Diebold remains to be seen.

Of course, he “hadn’t heard anything” about the robocallers, but he was ready with a list of concerns from the ‘04 and ‘06 elections, including the blue slashing of red tires in Wisconsin in ‘04, and voting machine malfunctions believed to be causing Santorum some grief.

That brings me to a thought. So far, much of the fuss over election shenanigans has come from the left. I can easily believe that there is some fun and games being played on the right.

To my fellow bloggers (especially those of higher profile than me), I would encourage you to suspend bias when it comes to reporting on issues with the vote.

Whether it’s intentional dirty tricks by elephants or donkies, or just poor planning or stupid accidents, fumbling of elections is a bad thing, and it shouldn’t be happening in this day and age in America.
