As seen in the Hartford Courant:
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world’s biggest retailer, said Thursday it is extending its $4 generic prescription drug plan to another 12 states, bringing to total to 27 states.[...]
Analysts say the program will help Wal-Mart by bringing in more customers who will shop in other store departments, and extend its reach in another segment of the retailing industry - the drug store business.
It must be helping them, if they’re accelerating the programs rollout.
According to the article, the program is already in AK, AR, AZ, DE, FL, IL, IN, NV, NJ, NM, NY, NC, OR, TX and VT; and they’re adding AL, GA, IA, KS, MD, MI, MS, MO, NH, OH, SD, and VA.
As evil as Wal-Mart can be argued to be, you have to admit that they seem to be masters of stocking their stores and managing deals to maximize customer flow into their stores. This is a good thing for Wal-Mart, considering their total retail floor space in the U.S. is now very roughly the size of the island of Manhattan.
