Firefox 2.0 Extension Annoyances

Firefox 2.0 was released yesterday. Unfortunately, a few of the plugins I rely on haven’t been updated as of this writing. Fortunately, most of them work under 2.0 with a minor hack to the install file.

In case others need them, I’ve made my hacked versions available for download from my website. (Disclaimer: they’re still owned by their respective creators; hopefully updated versions will soon be available; and I can assume no responsibility for any misbehavior in these files — i.e., use at your own risk.)

Clip to OneNote 0.1 — copy/pastes highlighted text from Firefox to a OneNote sidenote. (Extension homepage: http://www.freewebs.com/onenote/)

SyncMarks 0.3 — allows automatic export of Firefox bookmarks to MSIE Favorites; seems to run much slower in Firefox 2.0 than in Firefox 1.5. (Extension homepage: http://syncmarks.mozdev.org/)

FirefoxView 0.31.3 — Adds a "View in Firefox" menu item to the right-click menu in MSIE. (Extension homepage: http://www.iosart.com/firefox/firefoxview/)

A fourth extension I used — "Feed my reader" has become redundant with new Firefox 2.0 functionality. A tutorial on how to add a new default RSS reader in Firefox 2.0 is here.
