In case you were curious, there is a summary of the various initiatives on the ballot around the country available from the Rothenberg Political Report.
Items that caught my eye:
- SD Referred Law 6 to repeal state’s effective ban on abortions is reported to be ahead in the polls 47-39.
- Colorado has both an anti-same-sex-marriage ban and a domestic partnership law on the ballot. The ban is polling at 58% “yes”, and the partnership measure is at 52% “yes”.
- Arizona, Nevada, and Ohio all have competing anti-smoking measures on the ballot, with pro-health versions seeking to ban smoking in most public places, and pro-industry versions granting exceptions to restaurants and bars.
- Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, and Ohio all have measures to increase the state minimum wage and index it to inflation. The measures are ahead in the polls in MO, MT, and NV; no polling results are shown for AZ, CO, and OH.
- Alabama Amendment 2 “requires an additional local property tax in school districts where property taxes are low.” (Sounds interesting; I need to go find out what’s up with that.)
- Florida Amendment 3 would require a 60% supermajority for the public to approve constitutional amendments.
- The report shows no poll information for Oregon Measure 42 (anti-credit scoring).
