So, I spent about 6 hours today on a former Song 757. The Song entertainment system was still active, so this meant that I had access to several satellite TV channels.
All the news channels were spending quite a bit of airtime rehashing details of the Foley scandal, and covering the GOP damage control efforts.
One item that I picked up before I decided that the book I’m reading is infinitely better than TV — a bit of fuss was made over Foley’s entering rehab for “alcoholism and other behavioral issues”… despite friends and acquaintances of his being surprised that he’d claim to be an alcoholic.
It seems that this has become the preferred way to hide from the media spotlight — go hide in a rehab center until the storm blows over.
I have no problem with folks who need help seeking it…but rehab as a PR management tool seems just a bit sleazy to me.
