When They Tell You to Turn Off Your Cell Phones For the Flight, They Mean It!

One of my gripes arising from traveling for work is folks who ignore flight attendants’ instructions. You know: those people who stand up while the jet is still on the taxiway, or who are foolish enough to walk around during turbulence so bad that the attendants are cowering in their seats, or who insist that they are so important as to keep talking on their cell phones after the cabin door has been shut and electronics have been ordered off.

Well, it looks like at least one crew means it when they say that cell phones shall be turned off during flight. From NineMSN.com:

A British Airways flight from London to New York turned around mid-flight and returned to London’s Heathrow airport after a mobile phone started ringing, the airline said.

OK. It’s true that there is a certain amount of sensitivity towards flights from Britain to the U.S. these days. And, it’s true that no one wanted to claim a phone that shouldn’t have been able to get on board. Still, there is some part of me that just wants to say, “See! They really mean it!”
