Surfing the net after a day spent traveling to the left coast, I was troubled to see this wire service story:
[A] Harris Poll released July 21 found that a full 50 percent of U.S. respondents ” up from 36 percent last year ” said they believe Iraq did have the forbidden arms when U.S. troops invaded in March 2003, an attack whose stated purpose was elimination of supposed WMD. Other polls also have found an enduring American faith in the WMD story.
The article mentions that part of the result is party loyalty, and a need to have some justification for being in Iraq in the face of daily media reports (admittedly potentially one-sided) on how badly things are going there.
My inner cynic can’t help but wonder if there’s a certain portion of the American public that doesn’t know the difference between Iraq and Iran.
