(This is essentially a repeat of what was posted in my Livejournal yesterday. Sorry for the dupe.)
You know, I had hoped with the first wave of my summer business travel out of the way last week that I could resume my normal volume of posting this week. However, this changed somewhat yesterday.
My wife befriended a neighbor’s son awhile back. He’s a troubled kid, but seemed like a nice guy, and she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Well, that friendship was betrayed yesterday, when we found that a set of keys had gone missing, as had a few weeks’ worth of my wife’s pain meds. She was in a car accident about 4½ years ago, and these particular meds help out with the aftermath.
While outside, we saw him get into the car with some friends. As he was getting in “something” fell out of his bag, “something” which he quickly gathered up before driving off. He didn’t do the best job gathering it up. Three doses were left in the driveway.
It sucks to have a friendship betrayed like that. It sucks even more that someone would steal drugs from someone who actually really needs them.
One of the questions we’ve been tossing around in the aftermath is that of whether to press charges. On the one hand, we don’t want him to think he can just come traipsing through our house taking whatever he wants without repercussions. On the other hand, this is someone who’s apparently been in jail a few times, been through rehab a couple of times….and you’ve got to wonder if anything will get through the kid’s fried brain at this point.
Anyhow, the aftermath of that little incident — dealing with the police, changing locks, etc. — put a crimp in other stuff I’ve been working on, so I’m running a bit behind right now.
