Lieberman Starts Petitioning for Independent Spot on November Ballot

From the Courant:

Lieberman, 64, a three-term senator weakened by his outspoken support for the war in Iraq, said his campaign will gather petition signatures as he continues to compete in an Aug. 8 primary.[.]

Lieberman’s decision means that should he lose the primary, the Senate race would turn into a three-way contest in November, giving Republicans their best chance at winning a U.S. Senate seat in Connecticut since 1988, when Lieberman unseated a three-term Republican incumbent, Lowell P. Weicker Jr.

I still think that Lieberman is the likely winner of the August primary in Connecticut. However, this is certainly turning into a more interesting campaign than I expected.

I’m going to have to break out the rabbit ears for to tune in the Lamont-Lieberman debate, I think.

(Update: No rabbit ears necessary. C-SPAN is going to carry the debate at 7pm EDT Thursday.)
