Katrina Looters Get 15 Years

Katrina Looters Get 15 Years

As seen on
the wires
:

Three people convicted of hauling away liquor, wine and beer
from a grocery store after Hurricane Katrina were sentenced Wednesday to 15
years in prison.[...]

They were convicted of attempting to leave the grocery with 27 bottles of
liquor and wine, six cases of beer and one case of wine coolers, six days
after Katrina made landfall.

The article goes on to mention that the defense attorneys think the sentence
is unfairly harsh.

While I could see 15 years as being harsh for getting a five-fingered
discount on some booze…this is looting non-essential supplies
during a catastrophe we’re talking about here, an offense many of us find
particularly reprehensible.

I admit, given the mob mentality that seemed to exist in parts of New
Orleans during the Great Flood, it’s hard to imagine that any sentence would
be effective at “sending a message”. However, I will say that I’m not
particularly inclined to be sympathetic with the defendants.

Because of the color of their skin, they got 15 years. Lets be real here. You are just as prejudice as the Judge, the idiot who sentenced them to 15 years.
