Windsor Connecticut Town Budget Referendum, Take 2

Windsor Connecticut Town Budget Referendum, Take 2

20 June 2006 · No Comments

Today was the town referendum on an amended FY07 budget proposal, calling
for a 3½% tax hike. The original proposal, which called for a 5½% hike, failed last month, 1118 to 2352.

I just got an email from the town mailing list, with the results of today’s
vote:

Yes: 1447

No: 2151

I may have to start going to town council meetings. This is truly amazing,
and merits pulling up a chair and a bowl of popcorn for.

I’m still planning to keep voting “no” until I hear what’s going to be done
to manage the schools in a more responsible way. That’s something I don’t
expect to hear. However, it’ll be truly interesting to see what happens
among realistic ideas.

Also in email from the town was a note from the town manager, saying that
tax bills are going out, as required by law, albeit at last year’s mill
rate. If they get a higher mill rate approved, they’ll send out a
supplemental bill later.

Strangely, the note didn’t indicate what would happen if a lower mill rate
was approved. I suppose that such a development would be unthinkable in the
minds of the town fathers.
