An interesting story can be found at Insurance Journal:
Vermont Gov. James Douglas has vetoed a bill that would have made seed manufacturers liable for damages caused by genetically engineered seeds that drift into the fields of farms that do not want to use them.[...]
It seems that a hot topic in Vermont this year has been the concerns raised by organic farmers who don’t want to rendered “non-organic” because their non-organic neighbor was a little careless in how they applied their GM seed.
I can understand the organic farmers’ concerns, even if I don’t buy into some of the anti-GM hype. However, holding manufacturers liable for the actions of a neighbor seems a bit overly punitive.
