You know, I had in mind a great idea for what to do for this week’s entry. Unfortunately, the all-knowing, all-powerful Internet has let me down.
I remember from my childhood a Public Service Ad on television that featured a child and a grandparent cruising down a freeway in a horse and buggy talking about why the country ran out of oil, trying to get the idea of energy conservation across to the public as well as supporting the 55 m.p.h. national speed limit.
It is the perfect recollection to have and to share, given ongiong tensions with Iran and gas prices bouncing around the $3 mark depending on where you are in the U.S.
I wanted to post a screencap from that ad, or even provide a link to an online archived copy…. and I can’t find one!
So, instead I leave you with a more iconic image — that of Iron Eyes Cody, the crying Indian from the Keep America Beautiful ads of the 1970’s.
