Bus Sale on Ebay!

Bus Sale on Ebay!

29 March 2006 · 1 Comment

Psst, buddy! Want to buy a school bus?:

Starved for cash, the New Orleans school district is taking a long shot and hoping to sell its flooded, unsalvageable school buses on eBay.

Some submerged to their roofs in the black flood waters, the yellow school buses were widely photographed in the days after Hurricane Katrina and have become an icon of the city’s devastated school system.[...]

The school district plans to put one bus up for sale on eBay this week. If it succeeds, more of the 259 ruined buses will be offered.[...]

The district plans to contract out its student transportation.

Well, it sounds like a creative way to handle the school district’s funding crunch….although I’ve got to wonder if a flooded bus is worth much more than its value as scrap material.

Also, I thought the images of the flooded school busses was more a symbol of a failure to have an effective evacuation plan that got even the disadvantaged out of the city.

A more “creative” way, would be to flush these buses with a fresh water/ soap solution, to, neutralize any toxicity, remove the “unsalvageable” stigma, from them, and, sell them for, more money; changing all the fluids, and, making them, driveable… You could kill two stones with one bird [pun intended] and, create, jobs, for, someone who needs one, to be paid for, by, the increase in proceeds. A tow bill, currently, is three bucks per mile, which, makes your “unsalvageable” buses, worth ; how much, you paying, to, have them, hauled away?….. so, let’s start over, before you begin, and give some of your people a job, and, to the rest of us, something to buy…. You’re welcome!!!!
