Senate Rejects Fiscal Responsibility

At The Moderate Voice, Jeremy Dibbel observed:

This afternoon, the Senate rejected an amendment to the ‘07 budget that would have mandated any new spending or tax cuts above and beyond the budget framework be offset by decreases in other spending. The vote: 50-50.

The vote was apparently pretty party-line, with 44D’s, 1I, and 5R’s voting for, and 50R’s voting against.

This just seems so backwards. I remember when the GOP’s brand of conservatism included fiscal conservatism. Power seems to have corrupted that stance.
