You’ll hear about it from umpteen gazillion places, but allow me to join the throng linking to stories reporting that Dubai has bowed out of their bid to run several American ports:
“Because of the strong relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the United States and to preserve this relationship, DP World has decided to transfer fully the U.S. operations of P&O Ports North America, Inc. to a United States entity,” Edward H. Bilkey, chief operating officer for Dubai Ports World, said in a statement released this afternoon.
Now, I have two questions:
- What are the odds being given on bets that Haliburton will be the “United States entity”?
- Does this mean that the gaping holes in port security will now return to being ignored, since the Dubai government will soon be out of the picture on running the ports?
