One story that’s starting to percolate is that of calls from fiscal conservatives within the GOP for the adoption of the “Contract With America Renewed”.
I haven’t found a good summary of the “Contract” yet, but it appears that some pachyderms are remembering that it’s not particularly wise to have your expenditures radically exceed your revenues.
Although I disagree with where they want to make some cuts, it’s nice to see that some Republicans remember that they were once the party of fiscal discipline.
They’re also potentially deflating something I had hoped the Dems would think of doing — resurrecting and updating the 1994 Contract, using the GOP’s own old strategy to perhaps return some semblance of balance to the District.
