(Via actuary.net) The subject line says it all. From the Fort Mill Times:
Charles “Trey” Williams took the microphone at the Charlotte Observer Spelling Bee Monday, nervous about which word he would be asked to spell next. But when he heard his final word - “Conquistador” - Trey just smiled.[...]
One of those words that almost stumped Trey, a seventh-grader at Fort Mill Middle School. was “actuary.” He doesn’t even know what that word means. He spelled it correctly, though, and that was all that mattered.
You’d think that we’d make sure schoolchildren knew what an actuary is before we start making them sign the code of conduct.
