From an AP story:
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Thursday the latest images of abuse of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison showed clear violations of international humanitarian law.[...]
“We are shocked and dismayed at the mistreatment and abuse displayed in these images,” ICRC spokeswoman Dorothea Krimitsas told Reuters in Geneva.
“The type of treatment in these images — video or photos — very clearly violates the rules of international humanitarian law which are designed to protect people detained in the context of armed conflict,” she added.
I thought about linking to a collection of the newly public Abu Ghraib pictures…but after looking at some of them (they are disturbing), I just couldn’t.
This information is not new news, although I don’t recall having seen quite so much blood in the pictures previously released. But it does serve as a reminder that the current Administration has a history of waffling when it comes to torture, and that waffling is somewhat aggravated by news that the U.S. is supposedly working with Moroccan secret police in the construction of a new rendition facility outside Rabat.
