The San Francisco Chronicle ran an editorial yesterday calling for the start of a mandatory savings plan.
I’ve mentioned the concept previously. It’s an interesting idea, which bothers my inner libertarian (the government shouldn’t force financial decisions on citizens), but appeases my inner realist (too many citizens make irresponsible financial decisions).
As long as there is permissible withdrawal for an appropriate laundry-list of fiscally difficult situations (health, disability, unemployment, retirement, …), its a concept I could probably live with.
