Louisiana Commissioner Wooley Resigns

There’s a wire story out saying that Louisiana Insurance Commissioner, Robert Wooley is resigning:

Louisiana’s insurance commissioner announced Thursday that he is stepping down in two weeks, leaving a job that has become much more complicated since Hurricane Katrina hit.

Robert Wooley, the chief regulator of companies that write insurance policies in the state, said he would return to work in the private sector. His chief deputy, Jim Donelon, will take over until voters can elect a successor.

Considering the insurance nightmare that’s arisen in Louisiana in the wake of Katrina and Rita, it’s understandable that anyone would seek to return to a calmer work environment. Commissioner Wooley also deserves commendation for having been the first Commissioner in Louisiana in a long time to not leave the office handcuffed and escorted by police.
