So, whatever happened to the V-chip?

So, whatever happened to the V-chip?

One byproduct of the FCC report that endorsed a-la-carte pricing was a call for broadcasters and cable/satellite operators to better
police “smut” on TV
.

I’ve got to ask: Hello, isn’t this what the V-Chip was supposed to do? You
know, that feature required to be incorporated into televisions to allow
parents to block material based on the presence of naughty words, prurient
content, or violence?

Oh, I see. Normal consumers who are parents aren’t supposed to take
responsibility for child-rearing. Legislation and regulation is apparently
required to ensure a child-friendly environment, even if it means that we’ll
be seeing 200+ channels of nothing but Sesame Street.
