Findlaw has a very
nice article on the complexities of the lawsuits popping up in
Mississippi and Louisiana, attempting to force the insurance industry to pay
for flood and storm-surge claims.
Should the industry lose the suits, expect homeowners insurance to be
next to impossible to find along the coasts, or in flood-prone places such
as Sacramento and Houston. Also, given that losing these suits could
effectively mean that contract language can be tossed out whenever it’s too
complex for the consumer to understand…. Oy, pricing is going to be “fun”.
