Quote from today’s Wall Street Journal, discussing the
political manuvering around the TEA-LU bill (transportation funding
bill):

Republican Rep. John Boozman, whose district includes Wal-Mart Stores
Inc.’s Bentonville, Ark. headquarters, proposed an amendment to exempt
retailers from federal rules that govern the maximum hours
truck drivers can work before resting. Dubbed “the Wal-Mart
amendment,” the measure drew sharp criticism from organized labor.
Mr. Boozman withdrew the amendment during debate. The next day, an
additional $34 million was added for a new road in Bentonville.

It’s nice to see that a little bit of pork can still buy a
congresscritter’s opinion.
